Shopify website development cost in India
What it costs to build a Shopify store in India, the monthly fees after launch, Indian payment gateways and shipping, and how to keep the budget under control.

Shopify is the fastest way for most Indian brands to start selling online. It handles hosting, security, checkout and orders, so you can focus on products and marketing. But "how much does a Shopify store cost?" has two parts: what you pay to have it built, and what you pay every month after launch. This guide covers both.
The short answer
Shopify store build: from ₹90K, about 2 to 3 weeks, covering theme setup and customization, products, payments and shipping.
Shopify plan: a monthly fee paid to Shopify, depending on the plan you choose.
Apps, payment gateway and shipping fees: paid by you to each provider, based on use.
What the build includes
Choosing and customizing a theme to match your brand.
Setting up products, collections, variants and images.
Connecting an Indian payment gateway, such as Razorpay, Cashfree or PayU, with UPI, cards, netbanking and cash on delivery if you offer it.
Shipping zones, rates and a courier aggregator if you use one.
Tax settings for GST.
Pages customers look for: about, contact, shipping, returns, privacy and terms.
SEO basics and a mobile-first layout, since most Indian shoppers buy on their phones.
What changes the price
Number of products. 20 products is quick. 2,000 needs a careful import.
Custom design. A customized theme is the standard build. A fully custom design takes longer.
Integrations. ERP, inventory, accounting, WhatsApp updates or marketplaces each add setup.
Content. Product photos and descriptions are often the slowest part. Copywriting is ₹5K per page as an add-on.
Migration. Moving from WooCommerce or another platform with orders and customers takes extra time.
The monthly costs after launch
Shopify plan: billed by Shopify. Check current INR pricing on Shopify's India pricing page, as plans and offers change.
Payment gateway: each gateway charges a fee per transaction, which varies by payment method. UPI is usually the cheapest.
Shopify transaction fees: on some plans Shopify adds its own fee when you use a third-party gateway. Check this when comparing plans.
Apps: reviews, subscriptions, WhatsApp alerts and loyalty apps often charge monthly.
Shipping: courier charges per order, plus COD fees if you offer cash on delivery.
How to keep the budget under control
Start with fewer apps. Add them when you have a clear need. Apps also slow your store down.
Get your product content ready first. Photos, prices and descriptions are what delay most launches.
Use a good theme. A well-chosen theme customized well beats a fully custom design for most new brands.
Plan for COD carefully. It increases orders but also returns. Some brands add a small COD fee or prepaid discount.
Shopify or WooCommerce?
WooCommerce has no monthly platform fee, but you pay for hosting, security and more maintenance. Shopify costs more each month but is simpler to run and scale. For most new Indian D2C brands, Shopify is the safer start. Our Shopify store cost guide covers the same build from a global angle.
After launch: support that sells
Once orders come in, "where is my order?" becomes the most common message you get. An AI assistant can answer it on your site and on WhatsApp. Try our online shop assistant demo with order 48211.
